For his final two years of high school football, Young attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, after attending Cathedral High School in Los Angeles. He threw for 4,528 yards and 58 touchdowns as a senior, earning him the Los Angeles Times Player of the Year and California’s Gatorade Football Player of the Year awards. He was also named the top offensive player in high school by USA Today.

He was a five star recruit and was listed as the nation’s top quarterback prospect and second-best recruit overall during his high school career, passing for 13,520 yards and 152 touchdowns.
